The Hayward Family
The Hayward Family originates from England. According to historical records the family can find its roots in West Essex, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Nottinghamshire.

The Protectors
The name Hayward is Anglo-Saxon in origin. In Olde English, “haye” means “enclosure” and “ward” translated to “guard”. This title was given to those who were in charge of protecting property boundaries (fields, forests, etc.).
Hayward’s in America
The first recorded Hayward in America was Thomas Hayward who arrived in Boston around 1634. Thomas and his wife Susan settled eventually in Duxbury, MA, where he became the town constable. Later Hayward’s would settle in North and South Carolina.
